You might be interested to know how many calories are stored in the form of carbohydrates in our bodies.
According to an article entitled “carbohydrates” and published in the US national library of medicine, it is generally accepted that there are 4 kcal or calories / gram of carbohydrates.
We know from the previously mentioned article that a person that weighs 70kg has roughly 500 grams of glycogen in the body. This number can vary slightly depending on body composition, fitness level and health.
As glycogen is stored carbs in the body, we know that the average person that weighs 70kg has 2000 calories of glycogen stored in the body. Therefore if one exercised for 60 minutes and burned 800 calories of which 20% was fat (160 calories) then one would have burned 640 calories of the stored glycogen in the body.
