According to Dr. Phil Maffetone, moderately anaerobic workouts soon can reduce fat burning and this fact has been demonstrated by scientists.
Anaerobic exercise are workouts where we burn sugar (carbohydrates) for energy. During anaerobic workouts our muscles do not rely on oxygen. When our heart rates are above 80% of our maximum heart rate such as Polar’s zone 4 and zone 5, our bodies mostly rely of burning carbohydrates or sugar for energy instead of burning fat.
People often perform anaerobic workouts to improve fitness and to lose weight. It is quite scary to know that continued anaerobic workouts can reduce fat burning.
On the other side of the scale, aerobic exercise where one’s heart rate is below 80% of one’s maximum heart rate, continuously improves the body’s ability to burn fat.
